There are hundreds of restaurants if not thousands of places to eat out in Tuscany. My wife and I have eaten in quite a few over the years that we have been traveling to Italy and since we now live here. We like to eat where the locals eat. We avoid places that state that they have a tourist menu in English and/or in multiple languages. You have to sometimes venture out of your comfort zone and be adventuresome.

For example, twice in the last month, my wife and I met some people for lunch at two separate restaurants. The waiter told us what was available for lunch (pranza) orally, no printed menus. There was a choice of 3 -4 pastas, 2 or 3 choices for a second course, water (natural or gas), wine and a caffe, all for 10 - 12 euros per person. Depending on the location (town, city), large or small, the price could be lower or higher. If you are from the States, it's the equivalent to a blue plate special or a lunch special. The main difference is the choices are what's available locally, home cooked/made and is Italian comfort food. Usually, no micowaved or frozen foods are served.

While one may be able to get a very good pizza at a pizzeria in Tuscany, it's not the only thing they may be serving. Depending on where the pizzeria is located and its size, there may be other choices besides pizza on the menu. So if you are hungry and you want something other than pizza, check out the local pizzeria. You may be pleasantly surprised on what you may find to eat.
